Gbridge Revolutionary VPN

What is Gbridge

Gbridge is a free software that lets you remotely control PCs, sync folders, share files, and chat securely and easily. An extension of Google's gtalk service, Gbridge automatically forms a collaborative, encrypted VPN (Virtual Private Network) that connects your computers and your friends' computers directly and securely with patented technology. Gbridge has many unique features.

DesktopShare(VNC): Access your computer desktop remotely or share your desktop with your friend from anywhere in the world. Gbridge automatically traverses firewalls and NATting routers without the need for configuration!

SecureShare: Securely share files among your own computers, so you can remotely access your files, e.g. play mp3 , with ultimate privacy.   Securely share files to your designated friend, so the selected friend can instantly view the auto-generated photo thumbnails and slideshow remotely. No web upload/download needed!

AutoSync: Transfer large files and synchronizing folders to and from anywhere has never been easier. AutoSync supports auto-schedule, auto-resume, incremental transfers and no size restrictions!

EasyBackup: Setup an auto-recurring backup of your important folder to a local or remote PC is as easy as 1-2-3!

What can you do after installing Gbridge

If you have a single computer running Gbridge

  • Use EasyBackup to automatically backup your important folders locally.
  • Chat with your friends if they use Gmail or Gtalk.
  • Invite your friends to use Gbridge themselves.

If you have two or more of your own computers running Gbridge

  • Secure, instant access to your files on one PC from another PC, anywere in the world: download important files, stream MP3s, and view pictures using SecureShare.
  • Use AutoSync to transfer big files and synchronize folders between your computers.
  • Use EasyBackup to automatically backup your important folders to another computer.
  • Securely control your computer remotely using (built-in) VNC-based DesktopShare or Microsoft Remote Desktop.

Windows 8 Immersive Metro UI Start Page For Web Browsers

The Windows 8 Immersive Metro UI for tablet PCs that Microsoft demoed a short while ago has left quite an impressions among Windows enthusiasts. One DeviantArt user has coded a start page in HTML, CSS and JQuery intended to be used as new tab page in browsers, that mimics the tile-based Metro UI interface.

By default, the start page contains shortcuts to twelve popular websites such as Google, Yahoo!, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, CNN, Grooveshark etc, but all the shortcuts and images on the start page can be customized and tweaked easily by modifying JavaScript file which contains all the settings.
eight-startpage
To use Windows 8 Metro UI-styled homepage on your web browser, simply download EIGHT - Firefox start page, unpack to a location in your hard drive and set the index.htm file as the homepage in your browser. If you want the start page to open every time you open a new tab, configure your browser to open the homepage as the new tab page.
To customize the shortcuts you have to create the images containing the logo or name of the websites, place them inside the folder ‘thumbs’ and then edit the file source.js and replace the URLs. The logos look best when set in white with alpha transparency. In simpler terms – transparent images with white logos. The background image of each tile can be changed too, by replacing the images under the folder ‘lib’. You can also change the search engine to Bing or Yahoo.

Easily Change File Extension From Context Menu

Changing extension of files is quite a chore in Windows. First, you have to enable display of file extension in explorer by choosing the appropriate option in Folder Options dialog box and only then you are able to edit the extension of the file. After you are done, it is wise to disable the option once again because it is very easy to accidently mess with the file extension when renaming a file. A file with an incorrect extension wouldn’t open in its intended program.
When I moved to Windows 7, I sorely missed a program called Properties Plus that I used with Windows XP. Properties Plus allowed me to quickly change extensions of any file from explorer’s context menu without going through multiple dialog boxes. Sadly, Properties Plus doesn’t work on Windows 7, but there is a new program that works not only Windows 7 and Vista but on Windows XP and 2000 as well.

The program simply called Change File Extension Shell Menu, after installation, adds a new ‘change file extensions’ entry to Explorer’s context menu. To change a file’s extension select this item and enter a new extension.
You can also change file extensions in bulk by selecting any of files together. It is also easy to undo any changes made. Just press Ctrl+Z and all changes will be reverted one file at a time. Keep pressing Ctrl+Z until the extensions for all desired files are restored

Internet users to triple in India by 2014: Google

According to Rajan Anandan, Google’s country head in India, the country currently has about 100 million Internet users, and the number will increase to 300 million by 2014, reports The Wall Street Journal.
Even with just 8% of its 1.2 billion population online, India is outranked by only the USA and China in the list of countries with the most Internet users. And Google thinks that the proliferation of high-speed third- and fourth-generation telecom networks in the country, coupled with the spread of low-cost smartphones, will further the spread of Internet use in India.
Even so, the online advertising market in India is only worth $200 million of the $80 billion global market, with Google’s share of $100 million being an almost negligible percentage of its worldwide revenue of $29.3 billion dollars last year. Anandan says that while advertisers in India continue to pour billions of dollars in traditional newspaper and television advertising, online ads have yet to catch on in a big way.
Even e-commerce, which has seen a significant boom in the country in recent times, is in its nascent stages yet, with online ticket sales bringing in $5 billion annually, which is only a small amount compared to the $80 billion market for ticket sales in neighbouring China.
The WSJ also had some interesting statistics to share about the usage metrics for Google’s products in the country. According to research by ViziSense, Google Search is used by 65 million Internet users in India and YouTube by 23 million. India is among the top nations by number of users on Google+, with 3 million Indians already having signed up for the new social network. Orkut, the company’s other social network, continues to be used by 11.1 million Indian users, though the service is in decline. Facebook, by comparison, boasts of 42.7 million users in India.
With regard to the potential for growth in India’s Internet usage, Anandan did have two concerns. The Indian government needs to update its policies to make them more friendly towards Internet use in India, he said, and the average cost of smartphones needs to be brought down further to help them gain more mass market acceptance. He said that Google was working with manufacturers to bring cheaper Android-powered phones to the country.
